Why do I develop gum pain after drinking cold liquids?

- Tooth decay: Bacteria in the mouth produce acids that erode the tooth surface, resulting in damage to tooth enamel and dentin. When you eat cold beverages, the cold irritation can exacerbate the pain sensation in an already damaged tooth. 2. Dentin hypersensitivity: When the enamel is worn out or the gums are receded, the dentin will be exposed, resulting in an allergic reaction to irritants such as cold, heat, sour, and sweet. When you eat a cold drink, the cold stimulus can make the pulp nerve feel painful. 3. Gingivitis: Gingivitis is caused by the accumulation of plaque and calculus, resulting in symptoms such as redness, swelling, bleeding and pain in the gums. When you eat a cold beverage, the cold irritation may make the already inflamed gums more painful.

When someone has gum disease, their gums begin to slowly recede and expose parts of the teeth that can be sensitive to cold water and food. If you have noticed gum inflammation or recession, you should consult your dentist right away to speak to them about gingivitis
